"PATHWAY TO SUCCESS"
With the Western Suburbs Magpies no longer a stand-alone team in the National Rugby
League competition, the journey local players must take to play rugby league
at the highest level has changed.
Wests Magpies new motto "Pathway to Success" reinforces the important
position the club continues to provide. The Wests Magpies are Liverpool and
Macarthur's
local representative team, and strive to develop local talent into National
Rugby League standard players. The Magpies have provided sporting opportunities
for the Western Suburbs Districts since 1908, and more recently the Macarthur
region over the last
20 years. This local knowledge has enabled the club to fullfill the unique
requirements of the area.
The Western Suburbs Magpies currently field three sides in New South Wales Rugby
League (NSWRL) competitions.
NSW Cup (Opens),
SG Ball (Under 18's) and Harold Matthews (Under 16's).
Junior Players in SG Ball and Harold Matthews are all local residents of the
Western Suburbs or Group 6 districts. Many of these players continue into the
NSW Cup teams. Players that excel at the demanding
NSW Cup standard may be picked to play in the National Rugby League
or National Youth League competitions for the for the Wests Tigers.
With the Wests Magpies being 50% owners of the Wests Tigers, players have
an equal chance of being picked for NRL duties.

Current Magpies at the Wests
Tigers include: Nathan Waters, Daniel Fitzhenry, Liam Fulton, Bryce Gibbs, Chris Lawrence, Beau Ryan and Simon Dwyer.
Western Suburbs Magpies have also provided a "Pathway to Success" for players like Brett
Hodgson, John Skandalis, Isaac DeGois, Luke Covell, Ben Roberts, Shane Perry, Ryan Hoffman, Shannon McDonnell, Dean Collis, Daine Laurie, Shannon Gallant, Peni Tagive, Rocky Trimarchi, Stuart Flanagan and Ray Cashmere.
The NRL competition is where the majority of Australia's City Vs Country,
State of Origin and International representative players are selected from!
